The Talent

The hard part was over.  I ran down to the dressing room and literally ripped by swimsuit off of my body.  It was at the pageant that I was introduced to butt glue.  Yes, that's right.  I glued my swimsuit to my butt so I wouldn't get a wedgie on stage.  I might be missing some skin down there because it stuck to my swimsuit . . . TMI.

Anyway, swimsuit off talent dress on.  Pantyhose on.  Different shoes on.  Put flute together.  Grab music, run to stage.  Walk onto stage composed.  Pretend I am not out of breath.  Raise the flute to my chin.  Escape into a world of bliss.

For the first time Saturday I felt comfortable.  I was dressed in a beautiful gown I wore when I was sixteen for All-state auditions, I had my glasses on for the first time all day and could see what was going on, and I was playing music I knew like the back of my hand.  It felt so soothing to escape into the melody, feel the cool silver of my flute and the warmth of my breath as it escaped through the keys.  I was performing and I was beautiful and I was calm.  I could have stayed on that stage and played all night.

Day of Service

Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  A perfect day to fly your American flag and be proud of your privilege of freedom.  Martin Luther King Jr. fought for an end to racial discrimination and segregation using nonviolent methods.  he stood up for his rights as an American in order, not only to obtain civil rights for himself, but for everyone being discriminated against.

"Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, 'Life's most persistent and urgent question is; 'What are you doing for others?''"

This is the time to take advantage of your freedom and your rights and to reach out to those who are struggling around you.  We live in America!  We live in a land of liberty and freedom!  We have the largest national economy, the most ethnically diverse nation, the Constitution, and civil rights!  With all of these blessings it is time for us to reach out to those around us, living in the great nation, and lend them a helping hand.

This is our time to serve our country, and honor the freedoms our forefathers fought so hard to obtain.

Go to http://mlkday.gov/ and get involved in an area near you.

"Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free,
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer.
God bless America"

Soundtrack of my Life

This is me.

Living in the laundry basket bubble, enjoying the warmth of my jammies and the joy of one on one time with my best buddy.  As we talked and laughed and teased the topic of my heart was mention.  My heart is my life, as it is for all human beings but I seem to kid about my heart more than the usual man on the street.

So I have a common excuse I give to anyone and everyone when I want to spend the day in my pajamas in a laundry basket, or when I mess up, or don't want to do something, or want to whine, or just want to be silly.  That excuse is "It's my heart" said in the most whiny nasal voice you could possibly imagine.  Everyone laughs, including me!  Crazy how my complaining cheers me up and makes me laugh but hey, I'll take what I can get, so here is the soundtrack of my life (meant to be funny).

It is just so beautiful!

The Thanks of Late

I hope y'all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  I spent the day sleeping in my bed or on the couch.  Not what I was planning on for Thanksgiving day but I was much more aware of how blessed I am; that my momma spent the whole day taking care of me, that I had a roof over my head, a bajillion warm blankets, a lazy dog to sleep with me, and all of the drugs the pharmacy would give me to combat this second strain of strep.

This Thanksgiving my list of what I'm thankful for is much different than in previous years but still sincere.  I ma thankful for cough drops,

disinfectant wipes,

tea, and honey.

It is a great thing that I celebrated Thanksgiving early in the week with great friends and delicious food.  I even made my very first pie, all by myself, from scratch!  Each step made the pie look more yummy!

This group of friends made a feast to remember!

Off to practice!  It's a good thing I am playing at church today, because my throat is still too sore to sing!

Thanks a bunch,

Felicity

Homecoming

Let me give you a little background: It is my last year in college, my football team is absolutely awful - I have never seen them play worse, and yet I just could not miss this football game.  It was freezing cold, 62 degrees at the start of the game and it only got colder from there.  Yes, I am a pansy when it comes to cold weather.  Our quarterback got sacked at least twice.  I yelled my guts out and saw no results.  I screamed 'Go Cats' to no avail.  I had not done laundry in a while so I ended up wearing stretchy yoga pants to the game.  When it was all over my feet hurt, my knees were stiff, my nose was frozen and red, my armpits were no longer warm enough to maintain the feeling in my fingers, I felt like the walking dead; and I would not have traded it for anything in the world.  I have the most AMAZING and BEAUTIFUL friends.  This night reminded me of how utterly blessed I am.

The team lost, but I won,
