The Polls are Closed

Thank you for your input friends!  Based on the poll 66% of voters decided Claret would be the color of choice for finishing the turtleneck of my poncho!

. . . and now, the moment we have all been waiting for (drum roll please); Felicity and her completed poncho!

This project used about 7 skeins of yarn and is the warmest poncho ever!  It is a bit heavy with all that yarn but I feel as if I am in a cocoon of warmth and beautiful yarn.  The colors remind me of fall and the poncho surrounds me in soft cozy comfort.

The turtleneck, with the claret portion connected to the main body of the poncho and the oatmeal portion being folded over, is a large circle of Lion Brand Wool-Ease that I can bury my entire head into for extra warmth.

This project was so much fun to make and gave me a nice blanket in the winter as I was knitting it!

Recycle Day: Leftover Yarn

Hello, my name is Felicity and I am a yarnaholic.  That's right, I am addicted to yarn.  Right now I have nine skeins of partially used yarn from past projects that I finished.  Often I am left with a little over half a skein of yarn.  This is not really enough yarn to make a full fledged project but I usually don't want to go buy more of the same color to make another project because I want a new color, a new weight, new, new, new.  I did find a nice project, requiring a small amount of yarn in which to use the leftover yarn from my poncho project!  Glovelets!

Easiest project ever!  It uses very little yarn and is a quick project you can finish in just a couple hours!

Materials:

• 9mm (U.S. 13) Knitting Needles
• Appropriate sized yarn

Procedure (make 2):

• Cast on 15 stitches
• Garter stitch (knit every stitch, every row) until piece measures 8 1/2 inches
• Cast off leaving a long tail
• Fold piece in half width-wise
• Mattress stitch sides together starting at one end for 2 inches
• Leave 1 inch without stitching sides together (thumb hole)
• Stitch the remaining length together 

There you have it - easy-peasy glovelets!

Put a Neck Scarf On

It's winter and it's not that chilly here in the great Southwest.  I have been knitting up a storm and have four scarfs ready to go, but it has not been cold enough to wear them!  It has however been cold enough to make some warm comfort food!

Wanting to try something new I went on foodnetwork.com and they offered to plan healthy weeknight dinners.  I let them plan away and they suggested Pasta Puttanesca.  It took 17 minutes to make, it smelled great, and it was really tasty.  The only downfall in my opinion is the lack of protein.  To make this a well rounded meal some protein and a side of veggies would make it perfecto!  In terms of looks I will let the pictures speak for themselves.

8 ounces whole wheat thin spaghetti
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/3 cup chopped parsley
1/4 cup pitted chopped Spanish or Greek olives
2 tablespoons capers
1 teaspoon anchovy paste
1 tablespoon fresh oregano leaves of 1 teaspoon dried
1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 can diced tomatoes
3/4 cup chopped fresh arugula
1/4 cup grated Parmesan

I substituted spinach for arugula and left out the olives.

Mmm . . . Pasta.

Parmesan cheese; I could eat it straight.

I Need Your Help

I have a dilemma.  Do y'all remember the pictures of the knit poncho last week?

I still need to make the turtleneck portion of it, which is supposed to be in the brown yarn {Oatmeal} but I completely ran out.

left over and do not want to go out and buy a brand new skein of yarn just for the turtleneck.  So I am taking a poll which will be located on the right side of my blog at the very top.  Which color should I use to finish the turtleneck: Claret, or Grey Marble?

Sleek Striped Poncho

I have been knitting up a storm to create this cute poncho.  The pattern says it is sleek which, as so kindly pointed out to me by a friend, is sort of ironic since it is the polar opposite of sleek since it is knit and heavy and would fail at repelling rain.

So, with all of that being said here is a poor quality picture of the pattern:

This is what I have knit so far.  I have yet to knit the turtleneck but it is now in the process and I am sure the big reveal of the finished poncho will appear in the next couple of weeks.

I finished a project! Very exciting!  It might be a gift, it might not; all I know is its soft and pink and lovely!

New Uniform

It is officially cold.  There is a chill in the air, a sniffle in my nose from biking, and the feel of clean cool air in my lungs.  The winter wardrobe is beginning to see the light and the knits of the season have become my uniform of choice.

I knit my scarf and contemplate how to design my own sweaters in between classes.  Sweaters are my favorite thing to wear when its chilly outside.  What is your favorite cold weather clothing item?

Mushy Mushroom

In order to prepare for Christmas I thought i would do a test run of this fabulous little knit Christmas tree from Fluff and Fuzz.

Not wanting to break my rule of no Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving I made the tree out of pink and this is how it turned out.

It pretty much does not resemble a Christmas tree at all.  It looks like a mushroom.  A mushy, overstuffed mushroom.

But it is still cute, and it will 'get by with a little help from my friends'.
In the spirit of fall a mushroom seems appropriate, cream of mushroom soup in potpie, mushroom hunting in Vancouver, and a knitted pink mushroom, all of the fixings of a fabulous fall.

Back to It

It's been a little bit.  Sometimes the strength to sew just isn't there.

It feels good to sit at the machine.

To feel the lovely fabric.

To be wrapped in soft yarn.

To create beauty.

Oh my goodness gracious!  Yesterday was jam packed with crafting goodness and today will be just as fun!

First order of business, the knitting class.  We were taught how to cast on and knit using the English throwing method.  I was hoping to learn continental but there are still two more classes so I have not given up hope.  I was so excited because they yarn she gave me matched my socks!

Next, I was bombarded with fabric, patterns, and the beautiful art of quilting at the sewing festival.  Look at the absolutely adorable tote bag kit I bought!

I am simply crazy about fabric with words on it right now, isn't it just the cutest thing y'all ever saw!

I cannot wait to get started on cutting up the fabric and sewing that tote bag together.  it will be perfect for toting my knitting projects around!  Even with all of these great projects beckoning me to come work on them I can't because today is the Jim Click Run 'n' Roll 8K!

So gotta run!
